Exploration of Learner Competencies Developed in Metaverse-Based Education

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to derive potential learner competencies that can be developed in a metaverse environment and to ensure the validity and reliability of the derived competencies. To this end, an expert panel was organized to verify the validity and reliability of the competencies. Through consultations with the panel, the derived competencies were refined, and a survey instrument was developed based on the results. The Item-Content Validity Index (I-CVI) was calculated using the participation of 14 experts. Based on the content validity test conducted by this expert group, ten learner competencies suitable for development in a metaverse environment were identified, and corresponding application strategies were also proposed. The derived competencies are expected to serve as foundational data for measuring learner competency improvement in metaverse-based education and to contribute to enhancing learners’ engagement, creative thinking, collaboration, and sense of immersion. This study holds significance in that it provides a theoretical foundation for future research on metaverse-based instructional design and its practical applications across various educational domains.
