Abstract

The production process of ship sub-components is a critical stage in block fabrication, the fundamental unit of hull construction, and consists of nesting, fitting, welding, and inspection processes. In partner company workshops responsible for block fabrication, equipment from various manufacturers is employed, resulting in heterogeneous communication protocols and data formats. This heterogeneity hinders real-time data sharing and integrated management with shipyards. Moreover, the high proportion of manual operations and persistent workload imbalances across processes lead to decreased productivity and quality inconsistencies. To address these challenges, this study designed and implemented an OPC UA–based interface architecture that standardizes data communication protocols for nesting, fitting, welding, and inspection equipment at partner companies. Leveraging this approach, we developed interface technologies that enable seamless integration with shipyard–partner company information-sharing platforms. The proposed framework ensures consistent interpretation and utilization of production data collected in real time from partner companies, thereby establishing a technological foundation for digital transformation in the shipbuilding industry.
