An analysis of students’ experiences with an online information systems field trip

Abstract

The importance of education in artificial intelligence and software is emphasized around the world, and numerous universities and institutions are expanding related studies. Students, however, are experiencing difficulties in computational and logical thinking, which may lead to decreased academic motivation. To address this problem, this study performed quantitative and qualitative analyses on a case where students planned and participated in an information systems field trip. According to a multiple regression analysis of a post-field trip survey, “responsiveness” and “effort expectancy” are the factors that had the largest influence on field trip satisfaction. Furthermore, text mining confirmed that the students interpreted their field trip experience from the aspects of data, technology, and career. The analysis validates the educational impact of information systems field trips, and the findings may serve as foundational data for the development and improvement of similar programs. Through systematic analyses, this study demonstrates the educational value of field trip activities and suggests the possibility of expansion in various fields of study.
