Abstract

Condition-Based Maintenance Plus (CBM+) is a maintenance paradigm that performs maintenance based on the condition of equipment, thereby achieving both operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness. In the defense sector, the need for CBM+ application has recently been emphasized. However, since most failures of electronic components have traditionally been considered random in nature, CBM+ has been regarded as less applicable to systems such as naval combat systems, where critical components are largely electronic. Recent studies, however, have demonstrated that degradation-driven failures also occur in electronic parts, and academic research on this subject has been actively conducted. This study aims to establish a foundation for applying CBM+ maintenance strategies to core functional components of naval combat systems by investigating the feasibility of fault prognosis for electronic boards. Due to the limited availability of failure data and real-time condition monitoring in military equipment, accelerated temperature-humidity testing was conducted to identify precursor signals of degradation. The collected data were trained using an Artificial Neural Network, achieving a prediction accuracy of approximately 90%. The results experimentally validate the applicability of CBM+ to electronic components and provide a foundation for enhancing operational availability and maintenance efficiency in naval combat systems.
