Abstract

Sixth-generation (6G) mobile communications technology is currently in the early research phase prior to commercialization, and various network architectures are being proposed to provide ultra-wide coverage and enhanced connectivity. Among these, UAV-carried Base Stations (UxNBs), which are unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), are gaining attention as a flexible and mobile complement to traditional infrastructure, particularly in areas lacking fixed ground stations or during emergency and disaster situations. However, the integration of UAV platforms with communication modules introduces unique security challenges not encountered in conventional terrestrial base stations, including increased physical exposure, vulnerability of wireless links, and potential weaknesses in autonomous control systems. This study proposes a security architecture tailored for UxNBs that comprehensively addresses these threats, and presents a hardware-based prototype implementation. The resulting proof-of-concept (PoC) environment is designed to facilitate future research and validation of security functionalities in UxNB systems. The proposed system is expected to serve as a foundational platform for deriving security requirements and conducting experimental research in 6G mobile networks.
